General Guidelines

To be considered for 2026-2027 distance learning scholarships, you must submit both your general scholarship and distance learning scholarship applications during these timeframes:

  • Fall 2026 Applications – March 1 – May 31
  • Spring/Summer 2027 Applications – Aug. 1 – Oct. 15

Students interested in distance learning scholarships must submit the general scholarship application and the distance learning scholarship application every semester. You must also be admitted or enrolled at the University before applying. Students can only receive one scholarship per academic year, unless receiving a renewable award. A distance learning scholarship can only be used during the academic year it was awarded.

The applications are submitted online through myBama. To access the applications, log in, select Admissions/Scholarships and navigate to the Scholarships section. Under the All Graduate/Undergraduate Students subheading, select the Alabama Scholarship Award Manager link.

Award notifications will be sent to your Crimson email according to the following schedule:

  • Fall 2026 award notices will be sent late July 2026
  • Spring/Summer 2027 award notices will be sent in late November 2026

Tips for submitting a successful application:

  • Complete the application in its entirety
  • If you cannot answer a question, type “N/A”.
  • Personalize your response by sharing your goals, motivations, and personal journey. Use specific examples that demonstrate resilience, initiative, and leadership through your actions. Reflect on what you learned from these experiences and how they shaped your growth and decision-making. Clearly explain how receiving this scholarship would reduce barriers and support your educational persistence. Connect your experiences to your future academic success, career aspirations, and your intended impact on your family, workplace, or community. Organize your response thoughtfully and communicate your ideas with clarity and purpose.
  • Take time to proofread your application to ensure clarity and accuracy.
